Shot Party 2010

A few weeks ago, I attended the 2010 "Shot Party," hosted by Kelly Manno, with special guest speaker Jasmine Star. Jasmine has been named one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world, and it was a real honor to meet her and hear her speak. She not only offered some great words of wisdom about the industry, but she also inspired me to be more open and give more of myself to my lovely clients. After all, I am asking them to open up to me and be vulnerable and reveal their true selves when they are in front of my camera, the least I can do is offer a piece of myself in return.

In the hustle of daily life and the posturing to find my "place" or my "style," it's very easy to lose sight of why I do what I do. Listening to Jasmine speak was like falling in love with photography all over again. I suddenly remembered the feeling I had the first time a mother told me my photos of her baby touched her so much she cried. A light went on in my head, and I said, "That's it!" Forget industry politics and all the shuffling around to find my "place." If I can give my clients images that capture who they really are, photos they will treasure for years to come, then my goal is accomplished. It's just that simple.

Anyhoo, enough rambling. On to the photos. Because what's a shot party without, well...a few shots? We split into groups and ran around the casino with our cameras and our models, like a giant herd of paparazzi. I don't know how many people stopped to ask who these people were and why were we taking photos of them? Can you blame them, though? We do sorta look star-stalker-ish:

I really enjoyed this shoot. Because it was a lot more "stylized" than I'm used to, I was able to shoot/edit with a much more edgy feel.

I am fully refreshed, inspired, and ready to take on the busy fall season. Bring it on!
